Another 1st for PSH


PSH has recently partnered with the Echocardiography Council of the Philippines Cebu Chapter, to hold the first Accredited Training Program for Cardiac Sonographers in the Visayas and Mindanao. The latest thrust of the Philippines Society of Echocardiography is to standardize the quality of studies provided by each of the cardiovascular laboratories in the whole country, and as an initial step, advocates the standardization of training of the sonographers through the provision of an official certification from the Council and the Society.


In accordance with the Society’s advocacy for excellence, PSH has always championed education and development of both staff and personnel. Dr. Jane Galang, the head of the PSH-CHI Non-invasive Cardiovascular Laboratory says that the hospital’s primary involvement speaks of its dedication and commitment to remain the first and best in Cardiovascular Education. To date, the training has only been available in Metro Manila, and according to Dr. Zurina Salas, course director of the program, this project is timely as there as more and more institutions in operation around this region that are demanding services for echocardiograms. Sr. Zeta Rivero, SPC, CEO of the Hospital hopes that this program will be the first of many to be held in the hospital.


The program is designed to provide clinical training, including hands-on practice, for echocardiographic sonography. It started in January of this year and will end on May, covering a total of 408 hours that includes didactic (140 hours) and hands –on exposure (340 hours). We currently have a total of _______ trainees from different hospitals and clinics in the Philippines.
